The logo of Smoky Mountain Resort Ministries (SMRM) is to be worn by all workers affiliated with the ministry during all organized activities. This will help campground, theme park, special attraction, business, and other personnel recognize us. It will also serve to help visiting workers recognize each other. Wearing the logo will generate questions as to who you are and what you are doing. Please be ready to answer such questions. In relation to the logo, it is good to have a brief, clear, and personal summary as to what it means. The design can serve as a witnessing tool. The following ideas should help you be able to talk about it in a meaningful way.
The words SMOKY MOUNTAIN RESORT MINISTRIES refer to the program of resort missions sponsored by the Sevier County Baptist Association (also by the Tennessee Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board) to witness and to minister to the resort communities of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Townsend. This is an on-going and year-round ministry. Bill and Cindy Black are the directors of SMRM.
The GRAY MOUNTAINS represent the beauty of the mountains for which this area is visited and enjoyed. Encourage people to experience the beauty of the mountains in the National Park.
ASHAN is the Hebrew word used in the Old Testament for smoke as God's presence on the mountains. God revealed himself to people in smoke. This word reminds us that God and his love are present in these mountains.
The CROSS reminds us of Christ's death and resurrection for all people. Through Christ, we are brought back into relationship with the God who is here. Through Christ, we can know God's presence in the Smoky Mountains. Through Christ, our "Recreation can become re-creation."
